Vicci & Richard – Frickley Lake Wedding 2019

One of the best fun weddings of the year, probably because Vicci & Richard didn’t take anything too seriously and are just on the right side of bonkers.

place setting

They said from the off that they wanted to inject a bit of colour and fun into their day, and they really managed this with simple quirky things such as the place settings; lemons and limes with googly eyes and peoples’ names written on! Really unique and brings a smile even looking back at them now. The home-made fully stocked gin bar was a triumph too as was the coconut shy and crazy golf!

And that’s where Frickley Lake is such as great venue. Loads of space to do things exactly how you want to do them. Plenty of room for camping too. Many of Vicci and Richard’s friends and family hired the bell tents for the night, while bride and groom overnight in the bridal boathouse on site, overlooking the lake. With the marquee coming as part of the wedding package it ticks all the boxes.

When the guests returned from the church which took place just down the road in Hooe, they were greeted with champers and canape. Weather was a bit changeable but a vast improvement on the wet and windy days leading up to the big day, and it didn’t stop folks making full use of the all the outside fun.

Vicci and Richard love their food and chose a really interesting menu. For the started sharing boards were placed down on the tables for folks to tuck into (and hopefully share).

The sharing platters consisted of Baby Mozzarella & Cherry Tomato Skewers, Parma Ham & Milano Salami, Chargrilled Mediterranean vegetables with pesto, Quail’s Scotch Eggs, Lamb Kofta Skewers and Chunky home-made Hummus with Pitta Bread. A mini feast of colour and flavours, and they went down a treat with the guests.

Sharing Board Starters

Vicci and Richard went for a BBQ for the main Wedding Breakfast but continued with the sharing theme by having the platters brought to the tables. On the menu were: Local Butcher’s Sausages (the ‘Battle Banger’ – one of Gordon Ramsey’s favourite sausages), Green Fig Signature Burgers, BBQ Chicken Wings, Pesto Marinated Vegetable Kebabs with Halloumi, served with bowls of Persian Rice Salad, Homemade Pink Coleslaw, Mixed Green Leaf Salad, Roasted Butternut Squash and Rocket Salad dressed with olive oil and toasted seeds, and Homemade Breads & Butter.

Zesty Lemon Pots and Coffee completed this show-stopper of a meal and the guests were nicely full!

The gin bar was in full swing with guests serving themselves from various gins with mixers and accompaniments, while Green Fig staff were manning a free bar inside and trying out their skills at making cocktails (luckily Vicci had left an instruction sheet!). Espresso martinis, Dark & Stormy and Sex on the Beach were on offer. Not sure how great our cocktail-making is but this crowd would certainly have enjoyed the entertainment! I don’t think Tom Cruise is at all worried.

As if they hadn’t had enough food, later in the evening a pizza van arrived along with resident ice cream van Miss Frickley, as well as lots and lots of cakes made by one of the guests!

To keep everyone moving there was a band followed by a silent disco from 11pm. Luckily it wasn’t far for those camping to stagger to the tents.

What a great day Vicci and Richard had (and us too)!
