Wedding in Tunbridge Wells, Helena & Ed – 16th December 2017

Helena & Ed – what a great couple. Helena being a teacher knew exactly what she wanted from the start & got really stuck in!

They wanted a winter wedding and with 90 friends and family to feed and on a limited budget they knew hiring a Village Hall would save them quite a bit of money.

The hall in Bidborough is just up the road from the church where the couple held their service, followed by mince pies, sausage rolls and mulled wine afterwards. Perfect on a wintry day.

When the guests arrived at the village hall they were greeted with a glass of bubbly and after a short time they took their seats for the speeches. If you’ve had something to eat to keep the wolf from the door why not do the speeches first, particularly if you have a few speakers that might want to get them out of the way so they can relax and enjoy their food more.

Helena and Ed wanted a warming comforting meal, and they chose very wisely. This was their menu:

Slow-roast Pork Shoulder served with Bramley Apple Sauce

Braised Spiced Red Cabbage, Carrots, Savoy Cabbage

Roast Potatoes, Parsnips & Gravy

or

Creamy Mushroom Stroganoff (V)

Individual Apple Pie & Custard served with whipped cream

The meat was served on boards in individual joints for carving at the tables (not much carving needed when it’s been slow-roasted) and what a crowd pleaser it proved to be. With the wine flowing and a keg of beer on the bar it was a very happy bunch of people.

Later on with tables cleared they had a proper shindig in the form of a barn dance, with a bar set up in the adjoining room and a cheese board for nibbling in between dancing.

All in all a great day and a real pleasure for us to cater for Helena and Ed.
