Carly and Tom got married at The Pilgrims Rest in Battle, a wonderfully unique venue, and full of character.
Well, what can we say about Carly? Also wonderfully unique and full of character. In fact the whole wedding party were great fun. The total capacity at Pilgrims is 60, but Carly and Tom only had half that amount. With this number it meant they could arrange the tables in one large rectangle, very sociable, and with their beautiful table decorations the room looked absolutely stunning.
Drinks and canape were served after the ceremony and most of the guests moved outside into the pretty forecourt garden, directly in front of Battle Abbey. After a fair bit of fizz and some nibbles to soak it up the guests made their way into the dining room.
Carly and Tom opted for our Traditional Standard menu – simple classics but perfectly executed, and easy for everyone to pre-order from. Carly and Tom narrowed it down to the following for their guests:
Bacon-wrapped chicken breast
Thyme & garlic marinated pork fillet served on sweet potato mash with a creamy mushroom sauce
Goat’s cheese & caramelised red onion tart
Served with roast & new potatoes & seasonal vegetables

Trio of Desserts:
chocolate brownie, strawberry pavlova, zesty lemon pot
For the toast wine Carly had her favourite champagne, Veuve Cliquot, and from then on every time we saw her she had a bottle of the same firmly in her grip!
During the evening the guests were all on the dance floor enjoying the playlist Carly and Tom had put together. They had asked everyone for their favourite songs and added these too – a great way to get everyone on the dance floor, even if only for some of the time. It’s not always necessary to have the expense of a DJ or a band if you’ve got the tunes and the right guests who will get up regardless.
Hot dogs kept everyone going and the bar, manned by our staff was in full swing in the adjoining room. The highlight was undoubtedly when an enormous dinosaur (aka Carly’s sister – also refreshingly bonkers) took to the dance floor. It was worth coming out of the kitchen to see all the action!
A fantastic bunch of people, great fun all round, and we’re so glad they all enjoyed themselves so much (we did too)!
