Not only is it always a pleasure to work at the Reid Hall – the amazingly well-equipped Viallage Hall on John’s home turf in Herstmonceux – but this was doubly good as it was the second wedding for the same family!
Only a few years ago we catered for the bride’s brother at the same venue, so there were many familiar faces at the Reid Hall again. Once again the family (who own the garden nursery just across the road from the hall) used their skills to decorate the room with fantastic hanging flower arrangements that totally transformed the hall. They also supplied the beautiful centre pieces for the tables.
The tables were named after various places Fiona and Olli have been to, together with a photo of them in that place; a really nice idea. Slatted wooden chairs and bright bunting finished off the relaxed countryside feel beautifully.
Different menu entirely though, Fiona and Olli kicked off with delicious canapé consisting of Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese Blinis, Roasted Vegetable Bruschetta, Mini Toad in the Hole, Roasted Chorizo & Coriander & Sweet Chilli Pitta Toasts.
The main meal consisted of Oriental Duck Breast served with Sweet Potato Mash, Roasted Cod Loin Served with Tomato and Chorizo Ragout and Roasted Mediterranean Vegetable Tartlet.
The dessert was deliciously indulgent Chocolate Cake made for them by a friend. We’re always hesitant to encourage Wedding cakes made by friends or family as it’s a very different kettle of fish to just making a normal sized cake, but this was absolutely amazing….we made sure we got the recipe at the time of tasting when they brought one in for us to try!!
After lots of mingling, fun and music the evening food was a sumptuous Cheeseboard, as well as platters of Honey Glazed Ham and Continental Meats.
Fiona and Olli were exactly how the Bride and Groom should be on their Wedding day – calm and relaxed and thoroughly making the most of enjoying themselves with their friends and family.
We wish Fiona and Olli all the very best for a happy future together x
