Another impressive marquee, set up in the garden of Ella’s parents’ house with far reaching views over the Sussex countryside.
Although the weather wasn’t particularly kind on the day, there were bursts of sunshine and dry weather which meant that 96 guests could enjoy the views and we could scurry between the catering tent and the main marquee without spoiling the food or getting soaked. We took our son along to be the umbrella holder if necessary!
The couple got married in Eastbourne at 2:30pm, so by the time the wedding party were back at the family home for drinks and canapé it was 4:30pm – a later start than most weddings we do, but that does mean you only have to feed folks once in the day – so you might as well do it in style.
Being foodies themselves, Ella and Will knew the food would be an important aspect of their day, so they opted for our premium package; restaurant style food with emphasis on presentation and flavour combinations.
Once again the Quails Scotch Eggs were the show-stopper canapé, along with King Prawn & Chorizo Skewers, Yorkshire Puddings with rare Beef & Wasabi Mayo, and sun-dried Tomato & Parmesan Arancini. Perfect with a glass or two of champagne.
With guests at tables at around 6pm, Ella & Will opted to have speeches first, as many do nowadays. Luckily the rain subsided just around 6:30pm as the girls were bringing the food out so we were relieved about that!
On the menu was slow-roast Lamb or stuffed & wrapped Chicken breast served on Boulangere Potatoes with Mediterranean Vegetables in a light Tomato & Rosemary Jus. The vegetarian option was a Filo basket filled with a wild Mushroom & Spinach Ragout, served with a root Vegetable Mash.
Ella and Will chose a trio of desserts consisting of a rich Chocolate & Orange Terrine, Brandy Snap basket with exotic Fruits, and a Strawberry Pavlova. This was followed by Coffee.
Later on there was a band and fireworks to entertain the guests who were still full of energy – but by which time we were packed up and ready to go home and put our feet up – weddings are very long days!
It was a delight to see Anna & James, whose wedding we catered for only a few weeks before as guests at Ella and Will’s wedding. They hadn’t known we were catering for it and said they got very excited as soon as they saw the Green Fig van!
Ella and Will were yet another fantastic and pleasant couple. Their love of food was certainly apparent when they had come in for their tasting – it’s a joy for us to know folks are really looking forward to the food they have chosen for their big day.
We loved catering for Ella and Will, and the slightly iffy weather didn’t seem to affect the guests’ enjoyment of the day either.
We wish them both all the very best!
