On Saturday 12 July we did our first ‘hen night’ catering. The girls were staying at a beautiful Oasthouse conversion with stunning views in Mayfield.
Not quite sure what they got up to the night before but the earlier part of Saturday was spent having vintage hair and make-up done, so by the time we arrived they were all looking freshly coiffed, Hepburn style.
The hair and make-up girls from Tea & Trim – www.teaandtrim.com – were clearly a hard act to follow so we knew we had to continue to the same high standard.
The girls started their evening (as every lady should) with canapés and champagne in the drawing room, served by handsome waiter, Dale. When they came through to the dining room they had an Asian Lamb Salad to start. Phoebe, the bride-to-be being a non-meat eater had a Balsamic Shallot Tarte Tatin. Next course was Pan-fried Duck Breast on a bed of Spinach & Sweet Potato Mash, Dauphinoise Potatoes, and delicate bundles of Summer Veg, tied together with a strand of Leek. Phoebe had fresh fillet of Cod on a Tomato and Bean Ragout.
To finish the girls enjoyed zesty lemon pots dressed with fresh cream and raspberries, followed by coffee and truffles.
Although still very ladylike at this stage they certainly made light work of their meal, as the plates were clean! By the time we were washed up and packed away the girls were making ‘wedding dresses’ out of loo roll, so I’m guessing the ladylike behaviour may have taken a downturn from there on in….
