Another year at Airbourne – feeding hundreds of private individuals, corporate guests and pilots.
This is our big gig of the year, and our 8th year of successfully winning the contract for the private dining at the amazing annual airshow – Airbourne. Based in a marquee on the Western Lawns on Eastbourne seafront, the guests enjoy a private booth with bar services for the day, the best views and even private loos!
The Thursday was a wash-out with torrential rain from start to finish. This meant that none of the planes could fly…very disappointing for those who had bought a ticket for this day. The least we could do was to cheer them up with champagne and canape and a fabulous three-course lunch.
The next three days were completely different – fine weather and all of the flying going ahead as planned. From behind the scenes, it’s pretty manic – especially on the Friday and Saturday when we had around 150 covers – not easy when the guests are in and out of the marquee – they understandably don’t want to be in a marquee if there is a Spitfire flying overhead!
It was a really tiring four days but it’s the pre-planning that takes the time… a good few months. Just setting up the kitchen and ordering the equipment is no mean feat. It’s all worth it when you receive feedback from the main organisers of the whole event like this:
“Thank you so much for your contribution to this year’s airshow. Your staff were, as usual, outstanding and we have had a lot of complimentary feedback regarding the Aviator Club, Cirrus Rooms and Flight Deck….not forgetting the call order service provided to our wonderful flying display team and guests. The food was delicious and your ability to operate almost on the flight display line rivals that of the RAF Typhoon! Thank you so much” – Jayne Howard. Event’s Co-ordinator.
