Is Evening Food Necessary at a Wedding?

One of the largest and most complex things to organise for any event is a menu; the pressure is even higher when it’s a wedding! Assuming you’ve already decided on the menu for your wedding breakfast, the next step is to think about what or if you’re going to offer any evening food.

One of the areas we specialise in is wedding catering. We are well-experienced wedding caterers and are always up for a challenge. Unlike larger catering companies, we will personally undertake every part of the catering, from planning to cooking. This allows you to have a completely tailored menu that will suit you, your guests and the theme for your big day!

Do You Need Evening Food?

The question marks hovering around evening food are some that appear extremely frequently for our clients. More often than not, we always recommend integrating some kind of evening food for your guests. Despite them likely having enjoyed a delectable three-course meal, they will almost certainly want something later on to give them some oomph to carry on deep into the night. You’d be surprised how quickly singing and dancing can take all the energy out of you! Guests will expect a simple snack as a minimum during the evening celebrations.

Traditionally, people would get married much earlier in the day and enjoy the wedding breakfast at around 1pm. This would, as you’d expect, leave everyone feeling hungry at around 7pm. At this time another lighter meal of sandwiches, for example, would be served. Nowadays, everything is done much later and the evening food isn’t served until around 9pm. This, if all runs smoothly, is when the partying and celebrations are likely to be in full swing. The majority of brides and grooms don’t want to interrupt the natural flow of things by forcing everyone to sit down to eat. Therefore, they opt for a more simple ‘snacky food’ or a more informal serve-yourself buffet.

Perfect Ideas for Evening Food

Everybody at Green Fig Catering absolutely loves working on more unusual and fun themes for people’s special days. The wilder your ideas, the better! We’re more than happy to do our best to accommodate whatever your vision is. However, to get the ball rolling, here are some of our favourites:

Hog Roast

The hog roast is an absolute classic and is still one of our more popular services for evening food.  A Hog Roast is the ultimate crowd pleaser. What better way to tantalise your guests than a mouth-watering, succulent hog, complete with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce? Plus, it’s cooked before your very eyes!

Mini Treats

Having a range of little treats that people can enjoy is always a great addition to your evening celebrations. Little cakes that people can enjoy with one hand, whilst sensibly occupying the other with a glass of wine, will ensure the progression of the party isn’t interrupted. We offer lots of options in this category, from cupcakes to brownies. We bake to whatever size you think will fit best!

Finger Buffet

A varied finger buffet is always a great option for a light snack to offer your guests towards the end of the day. We offer it all! From traditional to contemporary, our easy-to-use itemised list covers it all. We’ll work with you to establish the perfect combination to complement your event.

Or how about a selection of curry? This always goes down well and is actually really popular. It fills people up and is really tasty!

We can also recommend pizza trucks and other portable companies who can come and serve your guests! If you want something a bit different like this then please just ask – we know lots of great companies!

We are totally open to what you would like.
