Wedding – Anna & James – Saturday 8th July 2017

Yes, it was a double-wedding day for Green Fig! This time in a huge marquee in the garden.

marquee wedding – Anna & James

We don’t do this very often unless we know we can get two teams to cover both jobs without putting too much pressure on Chef who not only does all the prep during the week but is there on the actual day. We are a small and busy team!

However, Anna being wonderfully relaxed knew from the outset exactly what she wanted – a simple one-course meal of Lasagne – which a few weeks before the wedding became Beef Florentine after they had it somewhere and loved it – and some Salads and Garlic Bread to go with it.

With over 120 guests, Anna being very laid-back did not want the hassle of getting everyone’s pre-orders and collating the information, so it was a simple case of everyone having the same food (apart from the veggies) – job done.

concentrate now!

I always say that keeping it simple has the best results – and this was a perfect example of that. In fact Anna wasn’t even in Sussex until 3:30pm the day before and not only did they have a rehearsal that evening but she’d agreed to set the tables herself as well! That would be enough to panic most brides but not Anna – she just took it all in her stride (despite the soaring heat) and at 12:30pm she sent a text to say it was all done!

Cake was going to be used for dessert as well as an ice-cream van on the lawn. With a cheese tower cake and accompaniments to tuck into later it really was a quick in – out job for us.

That being said we still put our usual passion into the day – which was made so enjoyable for us as not only were Anna and James a delight to be around, but so were all of their guests. Funnily enough Anna and James turned out to be guests at a marquee wedding we catered two weeks later and it was lovely to hear Anna say “when we saw the Green Fig van we were so excited! We knew it would be a great day!”

Quails Scotch Eggs

The Prosecco bike was a great addition to the charm of the day and the fizz was certainly flowing whilst our team served canapé to the guests. The Quails Eggs Scotch Eggs which we fry on site and serve warm are becoming a real talking point at our functions now as Chef gets the egg yolk just perfect every time. A far cry from those things in packets in the supermarkets!

It was such a pleasure to cater for Anna and James – they were a breeze to deal with and equally as calm and pleasant on the day.

They definitely have a refreshingly laid-back approach to life, and this shone through in what was a really fantastic day for them, but great fun for us too – one that will stick in our minds as it didn’t even feel like working.

Very cool customers – we wish Anna and James all the very best in whatever they do x
