If you are looking for East Sussex event catering, it isn’t always straightforward, but that’s exactly what Green Fig Catering Company has been delivering for years. We’re a small, family-run business based in Pevensey, set up by partners John and Jo, and we cater for everything from business lunches, weddings and corporate events to funerals, birthday parties, club dinners and charity fundraisers. We take every single one of them seriously. This isn’t a big faceless operation, you speak to us directly, we plan things with you properly, and we turn up on the day and do a great job. That’s basically what we’re about.
A Small Team With a Big Reputation
We have many menus to suit most types of occasion so you’re bound to find the right thing for you. But we are always happy to tweak or adapt things and have a conversation about what you need, as well as advise on quantities or service style. Our food is made with quality ingredients, freshly prepared on the day by a team that actually cares how things go. We set the business up because we’re nuts about good food, and that passion goes into everything we produce, from canapés at a corporate reception to a three-course wedding breakfast for 150 guests. We work with professionalism and integrity, and we always go the extra mile to make sure every aspect is covered, from planning the menu right through to producing it on the day.
We hold a five-star Food Hygiene Rating from the Food Standards Agency, which reflects the standards we apply every day in our kitchen and on site. It’s not just a badge, it’s the baseline we hold ourselves to.
The Kind of Events We Cover
We cover a lot of ground across East Sussex. Weddings are a big part of what we do, from canapés and sharing boards through to a full sit-down wedding breakfast, and we’ve built a reputation for being the kind of caterer that couples genuinely feel they can trust to handle their big day. Several have told us we essentially acted as a wedding coordinator as well as a caterer, helping with timings, logistics and planning in the lead-up to the day. We take that as a real compliment.
Beyond weddings, we regularly cater corporate events and business lunches, funerals and wakes, private dining, children’s parties, club and society dinners, Christmas parties, afternoon teas, and family celebrations. We’re experienced outside caterers whether your event is in a private venue, a marquee, or a village hall such as Alfriston War Memorial Hall or Herstmonceux Village Hall, a private garden or an unusual venue, we adapt to suit whatever facilities are available.
We’ve Done the Large-Scale Ones Too
If you need event catering you can rely on for something seriously sizeable, not just a private party of forty but a large public or charity event, we have the experience to handle it. For many years, Green Fig held the VIP hospitality catering contract at Airbourne, the Eastbourne International Airshow, which is one of the top airshows in the UK. That meant four full days of fine food and wine for VIP guests, in a high-pressure, high-visibility environment. You don’t keep a contract like that by getting things wrong.
We cater annually at The Heathfield Agricultural Show working from the huge member’s marquee. This involves a 4:30am start feeding a few hundred hungry folk breakfast, which then rolls into another few hundred punters for lunch. With a ring-side view of the action it’s the place to be.
Our largest event to date was a major fundraising event for St. Wilfrid’s Hospice in Eastbourne, catering for over 400 guests. The event raised in excess of £40,000 in a single day for the charity. Catering for a marquee event of that scale takes real organisation. With any large event, devising the right menu is absolutely key to the success of the event. It needs to be a crowd-pleaser without being boring, but essentially it needs to be manageable on a large scale so that timings are kept to and the overall service is efficient.

What Actually Makes the Difference
When clients come back to us again and again, and many do, it tends to come down to a few consistent things. The food is genuinely good. We use quality ingredients, we make things properly, and we think carefully about presentation as well as taste. But equally important is the planning and communication that happens before the day itself.
Ask any of our recent wedding clients and they’ll tell you that we were in regular contact throughout the lead-up to their event, helping them think through guest numbers, dietary requirements, menu choices and timings. That kind of involvement means there are no surprises on the day. Dietary requirements, in particular, are something we take seriously – guests with allergies and intolerances are catered for properly, not as an afterthought, and we constantly receive positive feedback on this in our reviews. At the end of the event, we clear up quietly and efficiently, leaving the venue in good shape, so you can get on with enjoying the rest of your evening.
What Our Clients Say
We have hundreds of five-star Google reviews and testimonials going back years showing that we offer event catering you can rely on. Across all kinds of events, weddings, funerals, corporate functions, birthday parties, the feedback is consistent. Clients talk about the quality of the food, the professionalism of the team, and the fact that they genuinely didn’t have to worry about a thing on the day.
One client put it simply after a Christmas dinner event: “John has the ability to smooth out any changes in numbers, communicates well and stays calm, which prevents me – the organiser – from stress, so I get to enjoy the meal too.” That sums up what we’re trying to do at every event. Another, after a memorial service, said: “I cannot thank you enough and would not hesitate to recommend Green Fig.” And after a wedding in 2025: “When you told us not to worry about a coordinator as you basically do that anyway, you really weren’t lying.”
These aren’t cherry-picked highlights, they represent the kind of feedback we receive week in, week out, across every type of event we cater.
