Battle is one of the many beautiful towns in Sussex that is perfect for a wedding. We’re Green Fig Catering Company, and Battle is our home town. Our kitchen is just down the road in Pevensey, and we’ve been catering weddings across this part of East Sussex since 2013. So when someone local starts looking for wedding caterers in Battle, the odds are we can point them in the right direction, whether they’re looking for a venue, a village hall or a festival feel to their day. That local know-how is a quiet part of what you’re booking.
Weddings in the Battle area come in all shapes
Battle isn’t a one-size-fits-all sort of place, and neither are its weddings. Some couples fall for the history. Others want an empty field, a marquee and the freedom to build the day from the ground up. Plenty land somewhere in between. We happily cater the lot.
Over the years that’s meant characterful old buildings in the middle of town, lakeside marquees out on the edge of it, barns full of beams and, more often than people expect, village halls. We’re big fans of a good village hall. Done up with a bit of love you’d never know it was one, and it’s a no-brainer if you want to keep the budget sensible and put the money where it counts, on the food and the people looking after you.
The villages around Battle have some lovely ones. Reid Hall over at Boreham Street, sitting between Battle and Herstmonceux, has fabulous views out across the East Sussex countryside. A little further east towards Rye, Udimore Village Hall is tucked into an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the old St Mary’s church and the village cricket pitch for neighbours. Both are exactly the sort of blank canvas where good food and a bit of styling make it a day to remember.
If you’ve got the room for a marquee, even better. Give us the space and we’ll take care of the rest.
The Pilgrims Rest, right in the heart of town
The Pilgrims Rest is one we keep coming back to, and it couldn’t be more Battle, sat right in the centre of town near the Abbey. It’s a charming, historical building, full of character, and we’ve been regulars there since they opened their doors as a venue. We know the team well and work hand in glove with them, which makes for a lovely, relaxed day all round.
There’s something special about a wedding that feels stitched into the town itself. Guests can wander out into Battle, the building does half the styling for you, and the whole thing around The Pilgrims Rest has a warmth to it that newer venues sometimes have to work a bit harder to achieve.
Frickley Lake, out on the edge of town
For a completely different feel, Frickley Lake sits on the edge of Battle and Catsfield, and it’s a lovely blank canvas. Picture a marquee by the water, a boathouse for the couple to slip away to, bell tents for guests who don’t want the night to end, and (if you really want to push the boat out) a late-night ice cream van.
It’s exactly the kind of open, easy-going setting where a generous, sociable menu comes into its own. Sharing boards down the middle of the table, a summer cold fork meal, canapes doing the rounds while the photos happen. Relaxed food for a relaxed day, just wonderful.
Food worth remembering
This is the bit we care about most. Real, home-made food, cooked from scratch with quality local Sussex ingredients. Not in a “the food was nice” way. In a “three weeks on and guests are still messaging about the slow-cooked beef” kind of way.
We’ve got menus to suit everyone’s taste and to suit the vibe you are looking for. And we look after everyone at the table. Vegetarians, vegans and anyone with allergies get a great feast of their own, thought about with just as much care as everything else. It’s never an afterthought, because to us it honestly isn’t one.

Your wedding caterers in Battle, start to finish
From your first enquiry to the last crumb cleared away, you deal with us. John, Jo and our fabulous team. The faces you meet when you book are the same faces you’ll see on the morning of the wedding, which is exactly how we think it should be.
We only ever take one wedding per weekend, so yours will get our full attention rather than a slot squeezed between two others. We’d like to think we’re well organised but still personal and flexible, and our five-star food hygiene rating means you can stop worrying about the catering and get on with enjoying your day.
If you’re planning a wedding in Battle and you’re thinking about what you want your guests to remember, we’d love to have a chat.
