Lyn and Steve got married at Pilgrim’s Rest in Battle on Saturday 7th December.

We’ve had a little flurry of winter weddings at this lovely venue; but it’s perfect in summer months as well when the pretty garden can also be used as well as the front area with views of Battle Abbey, directly opposite.

Lyn and Steve had a small group of just 28 guests who were served bubbles and canape after the 2pm ceremony held in the main hall. Canape included Chicken satay skewers, Chicken liver parfait with red onion marmalade filo tartlets, Quail’s Scotch eggs and Tomato & parmesan arancini balls.

At 4pm the guests moved into the dining room which looks beautiful when it’s getting darker outside, and with the open fires roaring it creates a really cosy atmosphere. On Lyn and Steve’s menu, chosen from our Traditional Premium menu were these fabulous dishes:

Trio of salmon: Smoked salmon, flaked hot smoked salmon, salmon & chive mousse
Warm Asian style lamb fillet salad
Roasted Mediterranean vegetable bruschetta

Five-hour slow cooked ox cheek with creamy mash, roasted parsnips, carrots & a red wine jus
Chicken breast stuffed with sundried tomato & mozzarella wrapped in Serrano ham served on crushed new potatoes with roasted Mediterranean vegetables
Oven baked cod topped with a basil, parmesan & chorizo crust served on crushed new potatoes with roasted carrots & fine green beans

Tea & Coffee

A singer provided the evening entertainment and the evening food was our Sussex Speciality Cheese Board with accompaniments including bread, crackers, cherry tomatoes, grapes, chutney & butter. A honey & mustard glazed ham platter was also added, followed by wedding cake.

Another lovely couple to cater for and we’re so pleased they had such a special day; here’s what they said:

The food was outstanding and attracted many compliments from our guests. We would also like to thank the young ladies who served us; nothing was too much trouble for any of them and we felt very well cared for. It was lovely to relax knowing that everything would be done, and done well. Thanks so much for making our day that bit more special”
