Hamper Wedding – Kathryn & David – August 2018

Kathryn and David got married in Bodle Street Green and then held their wedding reception at the wonderfully unique Frickley Lake on the grounds of Burnt Barn Farms near Catsfield.

Frickley Lake marquee

Complete with camping field, lake and boathouse for the bridal couple, this venue is ideal for those who love the outdoors. And even if the weather hadn’t have been lovely the marquee is so spacious it really wouldn’t matter.

With separate bar area, lounging space, dining and dance area this is the marquee of all marquees, one which venue owner Dave, (& also owner of Meridian Marquees – www.meridian-marquees.com) leaves up all season.

The proceedings kicked off with Prosecco and canape consisting of Tomato & Parmesan Arancini, Homemade Onion Bhajees, Mediterranean Vegetable Bruschetta, and Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese Blinis.

At around 4:30pm the guests took their seats in the dining area of the marquee. Perfectly fitting with the rural setting, Kathryn and David opted for picnic hamper wedding food. There’s always a lovely ripple of conversation as the hampers are brought and placed on each table, ready for guests to explore.

A picnic wouldn’t be a picnic without a homemade Quiche, and Kathryn & David chose Mushroom, Thyme & Gruyere as their flavour. Also in the hamper was wrapped Maple-glazed Gammon slices, Oak-smoked Salmon, homemade Cheese Straws and homemade Hummus with Crudite.

Baskets of bread and condiments accompanied the hamper food, as well as three salads, namely a Mixed Green Leaf Salad with a Vinaigrette Dressing, Homemade Coleslaw and a New Potato Salad with Wholegrain Mustard Mayonnaise.

With a bar company taking care of the drinks (Amy at Happy Hour on Wheels) & a DJ providing the sounds everything was under one roof (or canvas) with plenty of space for everyone.

Later in the evening Kathryn & David had arranged for a pizza van to arrive to feed the masses (www.communityoven.co.uk). Although we will happily do evening food, it is by no means compulsory, so you have the opportunity to choose whatever you like. And sometimes we’re happy to leave the party in full swing and enjoy the rest of the night off, as was the case here.

Kathryn and David had what just might be the ideal wedding: informal, outside space, simple but fabulous food plus lots of friends and family to party with.

We’re so glad they enjoyed their day and wish them all the best
