After a ceremony at Hastings Town Hall, Judith and Peter and their 70 guests headed back to The Printworks.
It’s an amazing old warehouse now running as a cool bar and B&B, and being friends of the owners it was the perfect place to hold their wedding reception. We had access to the owner’s flat a few flights up – a bit different to our usual set up, but we managed.
Judith and Peter have done all this before, so this time it was a case of having it exactly how they wanted it, with all of their closest of friends. Although they live some of the time in Hastings, they work in Belgium, and there were guests from many different parts of the world; such a lovely crowd.
Peter, having always had strong links with the Lifeboat service held a short video marking the history, while they enjoyed drinks and canapé downstairs in the bar. The nautical theme continued upstairs with various nets, anchors and little wooden boats as name places. It’s the little touches like this that make every event unique and interesting. No need for glitzy, expensive decorations, just something personal to the couple.
Being well-travelled Judith and Peter chose a really interesting menu. It had to be something we could do from limited cooking facilities upstairs but it worked perfectly. We set up a buffet table and served Thai Curries from chafing dishes; a Chicken Green Curry, a Vegetable Curry and an Ox-Cheek Rendang. Spicy little numbers but most seemed to come back for more so it obviously hit the spot with the guests too.
To add a twist the dessert was Crème Brulee with Lemongrass, as well as the quintessentially British pud, Sticky Toffee with a warm Toffee Sauce – this went down particularly well with the foreign contingent who had never heard of it.
The couple and guests were so laid-back, it made it such a pleasure to be part of their special day. Space was a bit tight in the room but nobody cared, everyone just mucked in. I can honestly say that all of the staff had loads of fun too, and it was lovely to receive such a warm goodbye as we left them to it for the evening.
A real gem of a couple, we loved catering for Judith and Peter, and we wish them all the best x
