Lex and Bex got married in Lewes at Southover Grange; quiet ceremony with just the close family, before meeting up with the rest of their guests at Horstedpond Farm, a venue in Uckfield.
It’s a rural wedding venue, with a woodland chapel and extra parking field. Which is perfect for today’s couples as that means you can put up a marquee and do everything just how you want it, including putting up tents for camping and really making a weekend of it.
Which is what Lex and Bex did. The marquee was supplied by Emma and Simon at Raise The Roof Marquees. Emma also offers a wedding planning service so our paths keep crossing, which is great. Unlike many wedding planners, Emma is there on the day to work, rather than to be there as a guest; this is absolutely vital as there is so much stuff going on behind the scenes to make it all run smoothly.
Lex and Bex wanted a German Bierfest style wedding – with lots of food and lots of beer and a very informal service. In fact they wanted so much food and so many opportunities to eat it that I had to reign them in – not just to keep their budget on track but because there is only so much food people can eat!!
Rustic bare tables and benches were obviously a given but Bex added several embellishments to the marquee using her own expertise and creativity. A qualified electrician, the wheel candelabras were just a walk in the park for her – but what an amazing result. Totally unique and totally Lex & Bex!
Custom-made bar mats and coasters were also a nice touch to personalise their day.
After a blessing at Horstedpond Farm it was time for Pimms and nibbles. Instead of bite-size canape Lex and Bex wanted things to be a bit bigger and more hearty….well of course they did! So we set out a selection of home-made snacks, including scotch eggs, cheese straws, falafel, and sausage rolls.
The self-serve sharing theme continued throughout the Wedding Breakfast too, with sharing boards brought to the tables. Not content with one of our themed starter boards, Lex and Bex went for three!
The Greek starter board included lamb koftas, hummus and pittas, calamari, tzatziki, and olives. Then there was the Italian board: chargrilled Mediterranean vegetables with home-made pesto, baby mozzarella and tomato skewers, sun-dried tomato and parmesan arancini, and continental meats.
And finally there was the Spanish board! Manchego cheese drizzled with wild honey, Serrano ham, Spanish olives, and patatas bravas with oven-roasted chorizo. All served with home-made focaccia.
As if that little lot wasn’t enough more boards were to come. The mains boards included chicken satay skewers, Cajun salmon fillet, home-made quiche, Persian rice salad, crunchy pink coleslaw, mixed green salad and more home-made breads. The dessert was a selection of cheeses with all the trimmings.
This was certainly feasting at it’s best and Lex and Bex were great fun to cater for. Like us they think that great food, drink and friends makes for a pretty amazing day.
