Wedding – Eden & Ben – Saturday 22/10/16

This was the one Chef Ben was most nervous yet most excited about! With the bride’s family being proprietors of one of the most popular Italian trattorias in the area the pressure was on!

Sharing Platter

But there was no need to worry. In fact having such devoted food lovers as guests only made it all the more pleasurable as we could see and hear that the food was going down a storm! And there was no shortage of it either! They even decided to put a fourth course in at the last minute, Italian style.

The venue was Eden’s old school – where being quite the scholar they were happy to allow her to use the school, and let us use the kitchen, which was fully equipped – making life much easier for us.

Eden, Ben and their friends and family decorated what would usually be a rather bare hall with drapes and sashes and totally transformed it into something quite beautiful. We saw it all coming together the day before when we went to set the tables. And Eden had what must have been months of planning all under control.

Canape included Mediterranean Vegetable Bruschetta, King Prawn & Chorizo Skewers, Tomato, Basil & Mozzarella Kebabs, Walnut Crusted Goats Cheese Bites, Cheese & Ham Croqueta, and Thai Crab Cakes topped with Chilli Aioli.

The starter was sharing platters full of tastes of the Med such as Italian Cured Meats, Pecorino with Honey, Sun-blushed Tomatoes, Griddles Courgettes, Peppers & Aubergines and Marinated Olives, all served with home-made Focaccia and Olive Oil. The restaurant provided the soup course which was Wild Mushroom.

For main course guests had pre-ordered either Braised Ox Cheek with Creamy Mashed Potato or Filo Basket filled with a Roasted Mediterranean Vegetable Ragout and the kids had their own meal of home-made Chicken Goujons with Fries.

With a singer circulating throughout the meal there was a great atmosphere in the room and the meal was drawn out Italian style, with several pauses and interludes for a good old sing song! At one point all of the guests were waving their napkins in the air to ‘That’s Amore’. There’s nothing better than the sound of people really enjoying themselves – and the louder they are, the more noise we can make with the pots and pans!

The desserts consisted of home-made Profiteroles with a Hot Chocolate Sauce, Coconut, Pineapple & Passion Fruit Pavlova, and individual Lemon Cheesecakes, all of which went down with the same enthusiasm as the other courses.

A really fabulous day for everyone involved. We wish Eden and Ben all the very best.
