Battle Wedding

Elisabeth and John booked The Pilgrims Rest last year for their big day but hadn’t got much further with their plans, so didn’t approach us until just a few months before to arrange catering.

Fortunately they were very relaxed about everything and were happy to be guided, so it all came together beautifully with no drama (we don’t do drama)! We were able to get them sorted very quickly and before we all knew it the day had arrived.

After the ceremony the guests had drinks and nibbles. Instead of traditional canape Elisabeth and John wanted home made cheese straws & biscuits and home-made vegetable crisps. So we had bowls of these scattered around the venue for folks to help themselves. I think sometimes we forget that the simple pleasures in life are just as well received.

They then had a blessing so took their seats again in the main hall, glasses in hand. After the blessing we topped up the fizz, and they remained seated to watch a short play and harp music, performed by friends of theirs. This added a really nice, personal touch to the proceedings.

The one thing Elisabeth really wanted on the menu was her all time favourite dish –  Macaroni Cheese. So of course we obliged and added it to their menu which was a simple Hot Fork Buffet, but served sharing style to the tables. If you are up to capacity at your venue and a buffet table isn’t going to be practical, it makes sense to have the food served to the tables instead. All of our buffet menus can be done in this way. It’s more informal, saves all the getting up and down and queueing, and is much more sociable.

This was the simple but satisfying menu they chose:

Lemon Chicken with Black Olives
Oven roasted Salmon served with a Salsa Verde
Macaroni Cheese

New Potatoes & Seasonal Vegetables

Green Leaf Salad
Home-made Breads with Butter
~~~
Chocolate Brownie with fresh Strawberries
Zesty Lemon Pots served with Shortbread Heart
Once fed folks headed into the hall and the bar area where the trademark open fires were roaring. This venue is so welcoming and cosy, you almost want it to be a bit parky outside. That being said, Elisabeth and John were really lucky with the weather; so were able to make the most of the pretty front garden for photos.
So glad we were able to make their day so special for them, even at quite short notice!
