Amy and Tom chose the wonderful venue The Pilgrims Rest in Battle for their big day. Situated adjacent to Battle Abbey, The Pilgrims Rest is a historic gem with a character and charm which is totally unique.
This lovely venue lends itself perfectly to weddings in colder weather when the fires are lit and the cosy space comes into it’s own, but it works equally well on a glorious summer’s day when the pretty front garden and the back courtyard can also be used, and inside the old building provides a cool shady place.
Amy and Tom got married in Amy’s hometown of Cranbrook, after which the wedding party made their way to Battle for arrival drinks and canape. Canape included the ever-popular mini Toad in the hole, Sundried Tomato & Parmesan Arancini, BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders, and oven-roasted King Prawn & Chorizo Skewers.
For the main wedding breakfast Amy & Tom chose dishes from our Hot Fork Buffet Menu, which was served sharing style to the tables rather than as a buffet. The dishes they chose were Beef and Ale Stew, Poached Cod with a Chorizo & Butter Bean Ragout, and a Chicken & Lentil Cacciatore. The vegetarians had a homemade Tart. All of the mains were served with New Potatoes, Greek Salad and a Spinach, Mushroom, Pine Nut & Pesto Salad.
The guests had a trio of mini desserts afterwards, which consisted of Sticky Toffee Pudding, Zesty Lemon Pot and Banoffee Pie.
The food was very well-received and the sociable sharing set up worked perfectly well in the dining room which can be set up as 6 separate chunky tables with benches, or with the tables put end to end to make two long runs, both work really well.
Amy & Tom took care of their own evening food, which meant not only did we have a Saturday night off but we only had a two minute journey down the road to get home…perfect!
When we left the bar was in full swing, and the DJ was providing the entertainment. Amy and Tom had a fantastic day and we were so pleased to be instrumental in it. We wish them both all the very best.
